The BEST Reveals from the Future Games Show!

After the permanent shutdown of E3 in 2023, many game studios (both console developers and individuals, such as Geoff Keighley) made the decision to form their own gaming presentations. Many of these shows, such as Nintendo Directs and Summer Games Fest, garner hype from millions of viewers who regularly tune in. However, one show that does not normally get a large spotlight is the Future Games show. With the 2026 presentation including more than 40+ games, I decided to watch the event in its entirety and provide my thoughts on some of the best announcements/reveals!

Reveal 1: Lego Batman

In previous articles, I have expressed my overwhelming anticipation for this game. To be honest, TT Games confirming their FGS appearance was the main reason I tuned into the show this year. Thankfully, their section of the presentation did not disappoint, both for fans of previous games from the developers and Batman fans alike. Specifically, TT finally showed off the amazingly accurate “2008” suits for Batman and Robin, which are based on the original Lego Batman game. In my opinion, TT did an especially good job reconstructing Batman’s cowl piece from that game, rather than simply reusing the more modern cowl for Batman minifigures. Additionally, I felt that Batman’s glowing eyes and Robin’s suit printing in general were well done. Although not much else was provided in terms of new updates for the game, I am still happy we got this small (but exciting) reveal.

Reveal 2: Directive 8020

For many years, I have been a fan of interactive narrative-based games. In the past, I played through almost all of Telltale’s contributions to the genre (with Walking Dead and the Batman games being my personal favorites). Additionally, I recently enjoyed my (multiple!) playthroughs of Dispatch, even if I found it somewhat lacking in the gameplay department. However, one game in the genre that really stuck with me was Until Dawn. As a horror buff, I believed the game perfectly mixed an interactive narrative with popular horror tropes in a way that was fresh and interesting.

Based on what I’ve seen of Directive 2080 (which is being developed by the creators of Until Dawn), I have high hopes. In the trailer shown at Future Games Show, one thing that specifically caught my eye was FIVE-PLAYER co-op. This is something not common in games from this genre, and would likely add to the game’s vibe of “watching a horror movie with friends”. Additionally, the general tone of the game seems to be at least somewhat similar to the original Alien movies. Having just watched the Alien duology for the first time myself, I am excited to see Supermassive’s take on science fiction horror, even if it is extremely different than their previous games.

Reveal 3: The 7th Guest Remake

This entry is unique, as it is based on a game that I have personally never heard of. However, after examining what was shown in the reveal trailer, it appears to be something that I would enjoy. From what I can tell, The 7th Guest is a point-and-click puzzle game from 1993. The game was famous at the time due to its mixture of rendered graphics and live-action actors. This mix of elements seems to have been faithfully recaptured in the remake, along with some genuinely great visuals/graphics. Additionally, it looks like the gameplay was shifted from point-and-click to a first-person perspective. I always enjoy a good puzzle game every once in a while, and I’ll likely try out this game when it goes on sale in the future (granted that it receives good reviews!)
