Frightful Friday: The Ultimate Halloween Candy Ranking
With Halloween just three weeks away, it’s time to reminisce about everyone’s favorite seasonal activity: collecting candy! For some, trick-or-treating was simply a fun way to pass the time while collecting some good snacks on the way. For others, it was an opportunity to stock up on treats they looked forward to eating all year. I personally fall into the second group, so here is my personal ranking of the top five Halloween candies and snacks. As a note, this list is my personal opinion, so feel free to include YOUR top picks in the comments!
5) UTZ PRETZELS
To some, this may be a bit of an odd pick for Number 5, especially depending on whether you connect pretzels to Halloween. Still, considering I don’t really consume them otherwise, Utz Halloween pretzel packs are a great treat for the season. I personally find the now nostalgic packaging and “bats & jacks” shaped pretzels charming. They also have a surprisingly satisfying crunch and flavor (at least, when they’re not stale!). In my opinion, Utz Pretzels absolutely deserve this spot on the list.
4) STARBURST
A true Halloween classic, Starburst Fruit Chews are a reliable choice whenever you’re craving something sweet. Unlike some other options, all of the main Starburst flavors are quite enjoyable, with my personal favorite being the fan-favorite pink (or Strawberry) taffy. Considering how many of these are given out every year by different households, there’s usually a flavor for everyone to enjoy.
Another aspect of Starburst that makes them stand out is their practicality. They don’t often go stale, and their small size lets you take them wherever you go if you need a “quick fix” of sugar. Overall, while there are candies I would rank higher than them, Starbursts absolutely deserve the number 4 ranking.
3) JOLLY RANCHER HARD CANDIES
Like Starbursts, Jolly Rancher hard candies are great because of their small size yet strong, long-lasting flavor. Unlike other hard candies, their glossy, translucent appearance and wide variety of flavors make them stand out. My favorite by far is the Green Apple flavor since it mimics the flavor of a real green apple so closely. I always attempt to get my hands on some of these throughout the year, even outside of the Halloween season.
2) WHOPPERS
Even though each pack only contains a few pieces, Whoppers are a surprisingly solid Halloween treat. I think that’s because they are an extremely unique candy. The process of popping the candies out of the sleeve and enjoying their tough but creamy consistency is actually somewhat satisfying (and isn’t something you can really find with any other chocolate snack). Some critics argue that the inner section of the Whoppers is too dry, but personally, I disagree. In fact, out of the small-but-popular Halloween candies, I believe Whoppers are the quintessential option. Still, none of these options match the number one pick.
1) LARGE CANDY BARS
In my opinion, regular candy bars are the undisputed champion of Halloween candies. They are incredibly uncommon to receive, which makes them all the more exciting to find. Specifically, you can never go wrong with Hershey bars (especially the Cookies and Creme flavor!). I always looked forward to going to the houses in certain neighborhoods that would always hand out these bars (along with other chocolate options) every year. As for taste, I don’t think explaining what makes them so addictive is necessary.
