Terror Tuesday: Resident Evil 2 Might Be Closer Than You Think
After Zach Cregger’s incredible month-long box office reign with Resident Evil, many are curious if the director will return for an eventual sequel. While doubts were originally high due to early negative reception to the film, it seems that a hypothetical Resident Evil 2 could actually happen.
According to a recent Polygon interview with Cregger himself, when asked about launching a potential RE trilogy, he stated, “I was thinking one and done. Now that it’s completed, I can’t help myself. I’ve already got other ideas of what could happen.
Still, fans will likely have to wait for any news on the hypothetical film: “My next movie (The Flood) is already kind of in place here, and it’s not a Resident Evil movie. I’m going to go make something else. But on the other side of that, who knows? Who can say? Anything could happen.”

Since The Flood is slated for a 2028 release, we likely won’t hear any news on a potential Resident Evil 2 in the near future. Still, it is certainly interesting that Cregger hasn’t ruled the project out entirely. Truthfully, a hypothetical trilogy heralded by Cregger could easily cement itself as one of the best video game adaptations on the big screen.
