Why LEGO Should Make More Spider-Verse Sets
I am what many would consider an avid LEGO collector. I am also a fan of the recent Spider-Verse movies (I’m patiently waiting for Part 3 of the saga after that cliffhanger!). To myself and many other LEGO fans, it would make sense for LEGO to seize the opportunity of the IP’s popularity and release sets relating to the theme. However, even though LEGO has a strong relationship with Marvel and a seemingly good one with Sony, not many sets have come to fruition. And to be honest, the sets we DID get have been pretty lackluster. Here are some reasons we should get new sets based on the movies.
Reason 1: It Would Be Profitable

It’s no secret that sets relating to the very popular Spider-Verse movies would also in fact be very popular. Currently, the only options we have for sets based on the movies are small, cheaper play-sets and Minifigure Blind Bags. While these are nice to have, they’re definitely not on the same scale as other LEGO Marvel sets. Personally, I think we should get some more sets based on memorable locations seen in the films. For Enter The Spider-Verse, for example, a set based around the “Spider-Lair” could be neat if it included multiple Spider-Variants as minifigures. I could see it having a similar build to the countless Iron Man “Hall of Armor” sets. In terms of Beyond The Spider-Verse (or even the upcoming third film), a “Miles Versus The Spot” set has a lot of potential, especially at a larger scale. The current set, while neat, is not very impressive in terms of scale. I think a larger building with multiple larger portals and maybe even a build of a giant Spot would be a fine addition to anyone’s collection.
Reason 2: Current Set Is Lackluster

As I said previously, the Spider-Verse set that we currently have leaves a lot to be desired. While the set may be well-designed, it doesn’t really appeal to fans of the series or Legos due to its small scale and price tag ($50!). It’s surprising to me how this is the only official set fans can purchase, as I believe it would be very easy to deliver larger-scale sets from the films (even if LEGO doesn’t use my ideas). While the hype for the franchise might not currently be as big as it was, I hope LEGO learns its lesson and increases its Spider-Verse set output in the future. It would be a big missed opportunity not to launch many sets for the final film in the trilogy. Maybe LEGO could release other sets based on the first two films in the meantime!
Reason 3: Future Collabs?

This might be a stretch, but maybe LEGO making more Spider-Verse sets/minifigures could lead to collaborations in outside media? A recent example of this would be Fortnite, which received three new Spider-Verse skins (Peter, Spider-Man Noir, and Hobie) who all came equipped with LEGO variants. My hope is that if LEGO continues to make more Spider-Verse sets, the minifigure/set designs could be used in a future Lego Marvel Superheroes game (or maybe even a Lego Spider-Verse game!) Considering previous Lego Marvel games used real minifigure designs, this could be a possibility. Additionally, more Spider-Verse sets would strengthen LEGO’s relationship with Sony. I would hope that this makes it more likely for fans to receive LEGO sets based on Sony-owned IPs like *** of War and Uncharted.
Regardless of what LEGO decides to do with the Spider-Verse IP, I hope that their decision benefits the fans of the franchise. Continuing to make sets for the series would generate large profits, create a more diverse set output for the IP, and potentially lead to other collaborations.
